Happy World Book Day! To celebrate, here are some 2014 releases on my “must-read” list. :)
Released this Year
Uninvited by Sophie Jordon
In a futuristic society, genetic markers can reveal who will become murderers, and who will not. The main character, Davy, will be one of those murderers, and she must learn to deal with that reality. A reflection on identity and fate versus will, this one was already on my to-read list. goodreads
Panic by Lauren Oliver
From reading the description of this book, it looks like the perfect book for anyone who is looking for more Hunger Games type series: the main characters will become contestants in a game called “Panic,” where they will win the ultimate prize. If you read the reviews, however, this is a less action-based book and more of a exploration of human nature. I’m excited for this book with the hope that it will showcase very real characters, rather than heroes. goodreads
Released this Month
The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
A book for and about book lovers, this uplifting story revolves around a cranky old man and a two-year-old left at his door. I’m a sucker for sad stories turned happy, so this book should be one of those feel-good reads that leave you smiling at the end. goodreads
Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
When I first read the description for this book, I thought “nope” this is going to be too sad for me! It quickly grew on me though, seeing the grieving process of this girl through letters to people she tries to relate to. Despite criticisms that the characters in this book are just too immature (which usually grates on my nerves), I love the promise of character development that is given: “And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was; lovely and amazing and deeply flawed; can she begin to discover her own path.” goodreads
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Clair North
Ah, this book I am very excited for! Seriously, I saw it and thought, I need this right now. I love the idea that we are reborn, as well as fantasy books, so the premise of this book alone has me hooked, not to mention the wonderful mystery of the synopsis. Definitely click this link and read more: goodreads
Release Impending
City of Heavenly Fire (The Moral Instruments #6) by Cassandra Clare
Slated to be released in just over a month, this book promises to be action packed, set to wrap up the series for good. Will the book really be any good though? I’m addicted to this series, with a love-hate relationship. If you just read this series, and make it through the first book, it tends to pick up as it goes along! If you read another series by Cassandra Clare, only expect to be disappointed by her complete lack of originality and imagination. Still, I’m looking forward to finishing up this series, all the same! goodreads
Exile by Tamora Pierce
[no cover available] release date: September I have saved the best for last, because I am a total Tamora Pierce fan girl. I’ve read every single one of her novels, although admittedly it was so long ago that I can hardly remember them. Rest assured, I’ll be re-reading The Immortals quartet for this one, as it’s where our main character was first introduced. Let’s just hope this book really comes out – it was first set to be released in 2012, and that never happened! goodreads
Read one already?
If you’ve read any of these books, please comment and tell me what you thought (no spoilers)! I think The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August will be my first read, but after that I’m not sure which one to choose. :)
