First Impressions
KAREN GILLAN I LOVE DOCTOR WHO.
I hate her voice. And she looks super Lindsay Lohan in …a club. (Wait, is that the point?) Does not look funny… buuuut that’s what I’ve thought initially for just about every comedy so far, isn’t it?

Painful to Listen To
This dialogue is so hard to endure.
It’s partially the pitch of her voice. I get the there are girls who speak like that… but I don’t hang out with them, so why would I want to listen to an even more exaggerated version?
It’s partially the content of the discussions. The use of “like” and “totally” and just any time she’s self-realizing.
But it’s mostly the constant use of “hashtag blank .” Look, people use that, but it’s when they’re messing around, or making a point, or trying to be ironic (and failing).
Can This Show Just Be about Marketing?
What if the main takeaways from this show were how to market things? Sure, people, but the whole concept is that it’s similar to brands; so what if besides just having hashtags pop up at relevant moments, we had a marketing rule pop up?

Seriously, I could totally get in to that. Now I can be wasting my time in front of the television, laughing at a sitcom, AND learning something new. I think that’s what they call “two birds with one stone!”
As Bad as It Looks
For once, I feel like my first impression wasn’t so far off base!
Why am I excited about that?? Is it possible I don’t like Karen Gillan?? But, Doctor Who! …I’m going to claim that it’s the script, and not Karen!
It’s not that this show doesn’t have a premise I like. The concept of being IRL and forming deeper friendships… The social media references and jokes… Even the corny love story. It’s just that it’s not funny. It doesn’t feel authentic.
