Pinterest has given me some great ideas for the summer, which I’ve taken and run with. Before, I was feeling dreadfully bored – I’m used to being unusually busy! So, my co-worker Katie got me interested in nail art, and it had to be my first project. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out very well. But, I’ll let you know where I went wrong.
So here are the materials I began with. I knew I’d be attempting this pin from here. I started by cleaning up my nails and applying a base coat. So far, so good.
This is probably where I made the biggest mistakes. I hadn’t painted my nails in years, so I was sloppy about it – got it all over the sides and cuticles. Then, to make sure I had gotten an even color, I did about three coats. I definitely didn’t wait long enough between each coat, or make them thin enough to dry properly.
Now, if you look closely at the tape, you can see how it stuck to the polish. At first, I thought it was because I was using the wrong type of tape. In reality, it’s likely just because of how thick the coats were.
Then I went about adding the glitter. A single coat was really thin, so I went all out and gooped it up, making sure I’d have a nice glitter coat. (Not thinking about the fact it would never dry.)
At this point, we’re pretty sure I’ve messed it up as much as possible, right? Messy nails, thick coats, too many coats, not waiting between coats, super thick glitter coat… really I’m mostly making one mistake over and over. Well, another mistake: not reading the directions. I waited until the glitter dried a bit before taking off the tape. Wrong! I was supposed to take off the tape before it dried. So it didn’t pull.
The final result! You can tell I had to add another coat, to try and patch up the damage. With a thick top coat, the imperfections weren’t as obvious. But it was definitely 24 hours before the polish was very dry, and right about the same time I went ahead and took the colors off.
